It covers the whole body<\/strong><\/h5><p>Allah says: \u201cO Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies [i.e. screen themselves completely except the eyes or one eye to see the way]. That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed. And Allah is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.\u201d [Al-Ahzab, 33:59]<\/p><p>Al-Hafiz ibn Kathir said in his Tafsir:<\/p><p>This means that they should not display any part of their adornment to non-mahrams, apart from that which it is impossible to conceal. Ibn Mas\u2019ud said: such as the cloak and robe, i.e., what the women of the Arabs used to wear, an outer garment which covered whatever the woman was wearing, except for whatever appeared from beneath the outer garment. There is no sin on a woman with regard to this because it is impossible to conceal it.<\/p><h5><strong>2. It is not an adornment.<\/strong><\/h5><p>Allah says: \u201c\u2026 and not to show off their adornment\u2026\u201d [An-Nur, 24:31].<\/p><p>\u201cAnd stay in your houses, and do not display yourselves like that of the times of ignorance\u201d [Al-Ahzab, 33:33].<\/p><p>The Prophet \ufdfa\u00a0 said: \u201cThere are three, do not ask me about them: a man who leaves the jama\u2019ah, disobeys his leader and dies disobedient; a female or male slave who runs away then dies; and a woman whose husband is absent and left her with everything she needs, and after he left she made a wanton display of herself. Do not ask about them.\u201d<\/p><p>(Narrated by al-Hakim, 1\/119; Ahmad, 6\/19; from the hadith of Faddalah bint \u2018Ubaid. Its isnad is sahih and it is in Al-Adab Al-Mufrad).<\/p><h5><strong>3. It is thick and not transparent<\/strong><\/h5><p>The Prophet \ufdfa said: \u201cDuring the last days of my ummah there will be women who are clothed but naked, with something on their heads like the humps of camels. Curse them, for they are cursed.\u201d Another hadith adds: \u201cThey will not enter Paradise or even smell its fragrance, although its fragrance can be detected from such and such a distance.\u201d<\/p><p>[Narrated by Muslim from the report of Abu Hurairah].<\/p><h5><strong>4. It is loose and not tight<\/strong><\/h5><p>Usamah Ibn Zaid said: \u201cThe Messenger of Allah \ufdfa gave me a thick Egyptian garment that was one of the gifts given to him by Duhyat Al-Kalbi, and I gave it to my wife to wear. He said, \u2018Why do I not see you wearing that Egyptian garment?\u2019 I said, \u2018I gave it to my wife to wear.\u2019 He said, \u2018Tell her to wear a gown underneath it, for I am afraid that it may describe the size of her bones.\u2019\u201d<\/p><p>[Narrated by Al-Diya\u2019 Al-Maqdisi in Al-Ahadith Al-Mukhtaarah, 1\/442, and by Ahmad and Al-Baihaqi, with a hasan isnad].<\/p><h5><strong>5. It is not fragranced or perfumed<\/strong><\/h5><p>The Prophet \ufdfa said, \u201cAny woman who perfumes herself and passes amongst the people so that they may smell her scent, has (resembled) a fornicator.\u201d<\/p><p>(Reported by An-Nasaa\u2019ee, Abu Dawood, and At-Tirmidhee).<\/p><p>Zainab Ath-Thaqafiyah stated that the Prophet \ufdfa say, \u201cIf any of you women leave out to go to the mosque, do not approach scented perfume.\u201d<\/p><p>(Reported by Muslim).<\/p><p>A woman passed by Abu Hurairah smelling of perfume, so he said to her, \u201cO female slave of the Exalted! Are you going to the Mosque?\u201d She replied,\u201cYes.\u201d He said,\u201cAnd you perfumed your-self for it?\u201d She replied, \u201cYes.\u201d So he said,\u201cThen return back and take a bath, for indeed I heard Allaah\u2019s Messenger \ufdfa say, \u2018Allaah will not accept the prayer of a woman who leaves for the Mosque smelling of perfume up until she returns to her home and takes a bath (to remove it\u2019s smell).\u2019\u201d<\/p><p>(Reported by Al-Bayhaqee).<\/p><h5><strong>6. It does not resemble the clothing of men<\/strong><\/h5><p>Abu Hurairah said: \u201cThe Messenger of Allah \ufdfa cursed the man who wears women\u2019s clothes, and the woman who wears men\u2019s clothes.\u201d<\/p><p>\u2018Abdallah Ibn \u2018Amr said: I heard the Messenger of Allah \ufdfa say: \u2018They are not part of us, the women who imitate men and the men who imitate women.\u2019\u201d<\/p><p>Ibn \u2018Abbas said: \u201cThe Prophet \ufdfa cursed effeminate men and masculine women. He said, \u2018Throw them out of your houses.\u2019\u201d He said: \u201cThe Prophet \ufdfa expelled so and so, and \u2018Umar expelled so and so.\u201d According to another version: \u201cThe Messenger of Allah \ufdfa<span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">\u00a0cursed men who imitate women and women who imitate men.\u201d<\/span><\/p><p>\u2018Abdallah Ibn \u2018Amr said: \u201cThe Messenger of Allah \ufdfa said: \u2018There are three who will not enter Paradise and Allah will not even look at them on the Day of Resurrection: one who disobeys his parents, a woman who imitates men, and the dayouth (cuckold, weak man who feels no jealousy over his womenfolk).\u201d<\/p><p>Ibn Abi Malikah \u2013 whose name was \u2018Abdallah Ibn \u2018Ubaidallah \u2013 said: \u201cIt was said to \u2018Aishah, \u2018What if a woman wears (men\u2019s) sandals?\u2019 She said: \u2018The Messenger of Allah \ufdfa cursed women who act like men.\u2019\u201d<\/p><h5><strong>7. It does not resemble the clothing of disbelieving women<\/strong><\/h5><p>\u201cDiffer from the people of the Scripture&#8230;\u201d, \u201cDiffer from the Jews&#8230;\u201d, \u201cDiffer from the unbelievers&#8230;\u201d \u201cWhoever imitates a people is from them.\u201d (Reported by At-Tirmidhee, Ibn Hibbaan, Abu Dawood and others<\/p><h5><strong>8.
